How to avoid burnout and stay motivated all year long.

A month ago you were excited, eager, and ready to begin a new year. You reflected on the previous year and spent time writing down your professional, personal, and spiritual goals for 2022. But now we’re a month into the year, and you haven’t made any progress toward your goals. Maybe the last time you looked at them was when you wrote them back in December or January.

You’re not alone. January was a month of great excitement and hope, yet now the real challenge comes with learning how to maintain that motivation and take practical steps toward the goals you’ve set. If you’re already feeling burnt out and like you need a little motivation to spur you on, you’ve come to the right place.

When we have ambitious and exciting goals, it can be easy to go full speed ahead — until we hit a wall. Balance breeds success, and ordering our time and energy allows us to flourish in all areas of our lives. I’ve found that following these 5 practical steps can help you avoid burnout and stay motivated all year long.

  1. Set a good pace

    • Slow down. You have a full year to work on everything you outlined in your goals. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by everything and feel tempted to try to get it done as fast as possible. Work hard, yet don’t let perfection be the enemy of the good. Take your time and create a good pace and rhythm that you can maintain all year.

  2. Create a routine

    • Following a daily routine is a great way to ensure that you’re maintaining a good pace and still getting each task done in a timely manner. Whether it’s a morning routine to get your exercise and reading in, or an after-work routine focused on working on a new initiative, make routines for yourself to create stability and familiarity in your day to day.

  3. Make time for yourself

    • At GGPAAS, we are focused on ensuring that you are living a full life and flourishing in every aspect of it. Making time for yourself—whether to exercise, cook, vacation, etc.—is essential in your overall well-being and ultimate success.

  4. Set boundaries

    • In order to say yes to some things, you’re going to have to say no to others. Setting personal and professional boundaries is necessary to make time for what’s important. Boundaries also inform us of when we should step away, whether that’s permanently from a task, job, relationship, etc. or just for a period of time to clear our minds and come back better.

  5. Ask for help

    • You don’t always have to do everything on your own. Don’t be afraid to ask a friend or colleague for help when working toward your goals. GGPAAS is here to help you identify promising opportunities and help you achieve your goals.
