More than productivity: How to bring meaning to your work

Your time is the most valuable thing you have, because once it’s gone, you’ll never get it back. And, as an attorney, it is likely that you are working up to 80 hours a week, meaning you spend almost half of your year at work.

When working so many hours, productivity is always top of mind. It’s likely you're constantly thinking:

  • How can I complete this task quicker?

  • What project requires the most of my attention?

  • Am I reaching my goals?

  • Do I need to change the way I’m doing XYZ?

Since time is so valuable, and most of us have other priorities aside from work, it’s imperative that we take control of our time instead of letting it control us. This begins with understanding the inherent goodness of work and its rightful place in our lives.

There is dignity and joy that comes from placing our best effort and energy into our careers. Now, this concept may feel like it goes against the grain—too often we are led to believe that work is just work and somehow separate from our “real life,” that we cannot truly begin living until we are off the clock. But, just as time never stops, life does not stop at work, and neither should our personal fulfillment. When we shift our thinking to see work as a good, as opposed to a burden, we can come to find meaning through it. We are able to find fulfillment through a job well done, and for me, I love knowing that I am serving people with the gifts I have been given.

At GGPAAS Recruiting, we understand the balance between personal and professional life. We also recognize that they have to work together instead of being two separate entities. This is why we take a holistic and personalized approach to professional placement. We strive to match qualified candidates with firms that align with their lifestyle, values, and aspirations, ensuring that your time is always well spent.

If you aren’t sure where to begin to take control of your time, try implementing a few of these ideas into your daily life.

  1. Begin your day with the things that matters most to you — whether that’s prayer, your family, or just taking a moment for silence.

  2. Write down your priorities for the day — determine what is at the top of your priority list and begin there.

  3. Give yourself mental breaks throughout the day and carve out down time in the evenings to rewind and reset.

  4. Put your phone away in the evening for at least an hour — disconnect from technology and work to truly give yourself a break.

  5. Remind yourself of your “why” — stay focused on what is most important to you and plan your time accordingly.

This is a great place to begin. If you are ready to commit to making a change, let’s discuss what it would look like to work together. For a no-commitment introductory call, get in touch at https://ggpaasrecruiting.com/contact
